The objective of this policy is to ensure the health, safety and welfare of HD’s personnel, contractors, clients, visitors and the general public as the effect of drugs and alcohol usage increases the risk of accidents.

- On any work place or work related site
- Operation of any machinery, tools or vehicles

Breach of this policy will lead to disciplinary action which may include summary dismissal. The only exception to this policy is at authorised company functions and events whereby a pre-determined quota of alcoholic beverages will be supplied and alternative non-alcoholic beverages will also be supplied.
Where required, education and training of employees on Drug and Alcohol programs shall be made available in line with HD’s commitment to the health and welfare of its personnel.
The policy is but an outline of the commitment which the company places upon the health, safety and welfare if people in its workplaces, but the commitment from all concerned is necessary if the health, safety and welfare of all is to be achieved and maintained.
If a worker or employee is suspected of being under the influence of drugs or alcohol, the Safety Officer of the site and/or HD Manager will decide on the course of action. If testing is deemed necessary, this will be arranged through HD’s Workers Comp/Rehabilitation provider. If a positive reading occurs, appendix I of the EBA will be followed.
